After more than 25 years of maternity and family planning care, the NHCAC opened its primary health care center as a FQHC look-alike in January 1994, It received section 330 funding in 1997. Seeing women deliver healthy babies and knowing there was little or no available medical care for these children after the post partum visit, was a major contributing factor in creating a comprehensive health care facility. Now, not only children, but all family members have a place to receive primary care. This has also contributed to a  reduction in inappropriate use of emergency rooms in the area. 

Our Services include adult Medicine, prenatal, family planning, gynecology, pediatric and dental departments. We are also a provider of mental health and addictive services counseling, including the ability to service teens. The agency operates a community education and treatment program for seniors with addiction problems.

Beyond our primary health care services, NHCAC has two other unique features. Through specific contracts, we have assumed the core public health services foe six municipalities in the area of infants, children and adult health as part of the privatization of their health departments. In this way, the available services have increased and waiting times have decreased. This has also led to the creation or two
satellite facilities (North Bergen and Hoboken) in addition to our West New York location. A Union City satellite will be opened this year.

As the providers of a variety of social services including immigration, job placement, emergency feeding and sheltering, transitional and emergency housing, WIC, Head Start, etc., We offer one-stop shopping to meet broad client and family needs.

Serving a largely minority community, 70% of NHCAC patients are Hispanic. All services are available in English and Spanish.
